I am glad Mastodon doesn't allow that. That's how echo chambers get created. At least partially.
Furthermore, a compensating factor is Mastodon's lack of upvoting/algorithms. Which means there's no major risk that an unliked reply can gain prominence over a liked reply. And vice versa. All of a post's (top-level) replies are pretty much equal on Mastodon.
