"There was a thing called 'Radio' in the olden days. They'd only discovered part of the electro-etheric spectrum back then. They'd bounce signals off the slumbering atmosphere and send messages the world over.
"My grandmother told me stories of the time when early scouts awoke a storm lich. The feedback blew out half the receivers in North America! Pretty much the end of Radio.
"Not much of a loss, really. It made the world too small."
