Cuz you dont " own" real estate? Its not an investment. The gov can decide to come and take it for whatever arbitrary reasons they deem fit. You cant take it with you anywhere. Taxed on it every year.. it incurs costs to upkeep? There are plenty of reasons. Houses should be used to live in and only for that purpose, not to be used to extract currency from other individuals.
