This evening I onboarded some friends to Nostr and here’s my top level getting started ‘guide’. Please feel free to copy & paste it and add your own favourite client link and npubs.

Here’s a link to a popular client: https://primal.net
It works in a similar way to X - only much better 🙂
Everyone gets a Public Key, also called an npub. Mine is: npub1dwekunm9w9agazkwcq88ymxmj0j3qgxcu4mwfqnjqvyusa9cuxrs0wsqel
Here’s a quick link to my account via the Primal client: https://primal.net/richard
There are loads of clients out there, Primal just happens to be the most polished atm IMHO.
The npub for Bitcoin Runners is: npub1ylwh3snzv3hw9k3lum0kxx5h7v04xd76uqccnney8fmpqehluevqge7jxa
primal.net/p/npub1ylwh3snzv3hw9k3lum0kxx5h7v04xd76uqccnney8fmpqehluevqge7jxa
You also receive a Private Key, called an ‘nsec’, which must be kept confidential. It’s important to ensure your nsec remains private to secure your account.
If you’re using a computer instead of the Primal app, browsers based on Google’s Chromium (like Chrome, Brave, or Edge) work best.
To log in securely with a browser, it’s recommended to use an extension called nos2x. You can install it from the Chrome Web Store: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/nos2x/kpgefcfmnafjgpblomihpgmejjdanjjp
Once installed, you can enter your nsec into the nos2x extension. From then on, any website compatible with the Nostr protocol will prompt you to authorise it through the extension to ‘log in’—eliminating the need to copy and paste your nsec into websites. This method is far more secure and helps prevent accidental exposure of your private key.
See you on Nostr 😃
