Looks like #kbin has stopped running anti-DDOS measures, so it is now possible to follow kbin magazines from a #Lemmy account.

Federation is still a bit hit and miss and there is friction to actually finding magazines and communities if you're using a different service, but it's definitely better than it was a while ago.
