what about a real time compressor but instead of affecting the amplitude of the signal it limited the slope of the line
so it calculates the slope of the line between adjacent samples and forces it to a finite step value if it's too far above
maybe instead of just being low pass filter as described above it stretches the signal in time until it gets to the correct value before moving ahead in the input signal
