To be very clear these were not benign conspiracy theories. Conspiratorial thinking in the Western tradition owes almost everything to the anti-semitism that Western political thinking itself is heir to; it’s not a pleasant or safe field. What has happened though since the 2000s and especially in the social media era is the disappearance of what used to be a hugely varied, even baroque, catchment of different conflicting political occultisms, and their homogenisation into a boring big river of right wing conspiracy-grift machine.
The worst thing about sovcit-ism and qanon is, frankly, how boring it all is. Where is Bigfoot?
