I think it has a lot to do with being home educated until 11. I needed to amuse myself and would disappear off into a workshop and build things. Bows and arrows, furniture out of scrap wood. Anything.
Then it all fizzled out while I was doing “career stuff” (although coding is kind of making in its own way?). But then when the stress of everything became too much I would retreat back to making. #MakersHour
