"From Intimacy Comes Disrespect"
Excessive familiarity breeds contempt,
said Saint Thomas Aquinas.
It’s very common to be disrespected by those who grew up alongside us — cousins, uncles, siblings — because they are intimately aware of our flaws.
They saw our weaknesses and played with our failures, and for that reason, they think they can still do it. But the hand of an adult weighs heavier and wounds honor far more than the playful childhood scuffles ever did.
If they are crossing the line with you, I suggest you grow distant for now. Become someone unrecognizable, and only return when their disrespect can no longer find its intended target.
Thank you for reading all the way through, dear friend!
