npub1xr8gd35szene0r2yvfafr29tjwdedgwd89lnfpmh3pylnygnvd4qmf3q0g (npub1xr8…3q0g) Apparently the legislatures in states that passed abortion bans don't care that the same ob/gyns that perform abortions also deliver babies.
As a result, there are no more hospitals north of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho that offer delivery services. So if you live in Sandpoint, or Bonner's Ferry, or some kind of compound, if you are pregnant you can either drive to CdA or Washington state. Easy in June, not as much in January.
On the bright side, our little hospital in Newport, WA (10 blocks from the Idaho border) has now re-opened our delivery care, because we were able to poach the staff from Idaho who are willing to commute.
This whole thing freaks me out. My parents were each born at home, because rural Idaho/Washington in the 30s didn't have enough doctors. But my generation all enjoyed hospital deliveries in the 60s, as did the generation of my nieces/nephews in the 90s. Now, those folks can enjoy neonatal medical care just like their grandparents did!
