I wanted to talk with my students about the use of #English as the #international language (which is why science is written in it) and how that interacts with #status. Looking for data on this, I found that the patterns are more complicated than I expected.
My original hypothesis was that overall proficiency levels would be higher in the elites (esp. the mobile one), and generally, that is the case, but there are a lot of caveats.
