Some sci-fi authors see big trends, which they turn into books, those books are adapted into movies and they became self-fulfilling prophecies (since it's assimilated into collective cultural reference). Despite the resemblance with "I, Robot", I have the feeling we are getting more into a "Blade Runner" type of society.
We have big-techs and governments cooperating in big monopoly of online data, surveillance and censorship strategies; declining standard of living since 1971 (you know why); birthrate declining throughout the western world; Cryptography resistance; federated protocols and so on.
I know this post might look silly, but see this as the engineering of the humanity's zeitgeist since the cold war (with roots older than that). Don't underestimate the power of semiotics in building collective behavior.
