Like many other distributions, #Gentoo has some (not necessarily written down) "best practices", to keep your system as problem-free as possible. Then, we also have "minimal support rules", like how outdated systems we aim to support.
Then, we have some "nightmare users" (don't mean that in the pejorative sense), who do all kinds of unusual stuff and trigger problems nobody thought of.
And then, of course, we have Gentoo Infrastructure which is literally the embodiment of sysadmin from hell, going against all good and reasonable practices, and even against support rules. Like, they never ever do a "world" upgrade, and instead upgrade individual packages manually when they need to. And whenever a lockstep upgrade needs to happen, they're in major trouble.
