been expecting this for a long time
we have seen one event, the Carrington Event, which happened in the early days of electricity and blew out most of the nascent telegraph network, we don't even have a clue how long it will be until another one happens meanwhile the entire global energy distribution infrastructure of electricity networks is wide open for an EMP to knock everything out and physically destroy all the transformers in power substations in such a way that it may be weeks if not months before the whole network resumes function, and that's not counting the serious risks we have with literal everfire batteries inside devices with open air radio receivers just waiting for such a pulse to start a serious fire in everyone's pocket
and of course, if there had been a civilization that understood electromagnetism before, they would have known, probably, the approximate average time between these events, and would have also probably had other ways of estimating how long it would be until humans managed to reach this level of science on their own and told this story to many people thousands of years ago that such events would eventually come, and we wind up reading them in books as "3 days of darkness"
no idea how i'm gonna deal with it if it happens before i have my goat ranch set up... good thing i'm cultivating relations with my neighbours who have farms all over the place, sheep, grapes, vegetables, connections
