always start any kind of new training nice and easy and take a long time ( like a year ) to build up to full power.

i suppose if you do these running sprints while holding small dumbbells ( i mean really small, like 1 pound or the weight of a boxing glove ) it will be even more effective.
but again, the more effective an exercise the more it is potentially dangerous. be careful.
