tl;dr the post character limit is now 5000 characters!
By far the most requested change so far has been a higher post character limit. As you know, this is a bit tricky because the vanilla version of Mastodon doesn't allow for arbitrary post lengths, even though the underlying protocol ActivityPub can handle it.
But I've spoken to the service provider managing this service and they've upped the limit to 5000 characters. If it turns out this is not enough we can always amend this later but I felt this was a good place to start.
