Yeah, I’m not telling folks to stop their enthusastic bitcoin content. Just that if that’s all we get, we’ll stagnate and slowly wither away. We need the ability to find, share, curate, and create lots of kinds of content. Sure, use zaps and lightning to tip people and pay for content, but for almost everybody those should just be features and tools and not their focus. Humanity is incredibly diverse and within every person there’s a multitude of interests and communities.
When I was at a conference last week, a bunch of people were like “bluesky is cool, but i’m really worried it has no business model. how are the developers and users going to make money to sustain the network.” Well Nostr has an answer to that. The value to users is that there’s an easy low cost micropayments system. They don’t care if it’s run with the traditional banking system, bitcoin, some custom token, ethereum, sea shells, or even a centralized db like paypal. The value to people is in what it lets them do, not how it works under the hood. Honestly even all the censorship resistance, soverignty over identity, open source, open protocol stuff is not particularly interesting to most people. They want to go where the interesting people and content are. We’ve got to make that compelling.
