Discussions about alcoholism always have this vibe to them like everyone feels they could drink a little less. There's this low-key alcoholism embedded in our culture.
In my case, it would be much better if it wasn't available anywhere. Then I wouldn't be tempted to buy it. And there wouldn't be any FOMO since nobody else was drinking it either.
People get so dependent on it that the last time anything like that was tried, a large illegal industry emerged to serve that need. So strong was the demand for alcohol that violent crime was committed to supply it.
During the pandemic, they wanted to close the liquor stores in Oslo. People panicked and flocked in droves to liquor stores in neighbouring cities to get it there instead, so that idea was quickly abandoned.
It's crazy.
