Boomers like that kind of thing, what can I say. Whatever else may be true about them, paying for a service is deeply engrained in them. Beyond that, they've seen how far things have fallen in their lifetimes, they have plenty of money, and if someone tells them they can give up some money to make things better, they're happy to do it. It's the same tone we see in every political email, regardless of party.
In contrast, our demo of 20-something anons will occasionally send XMR if it's desperately needed through a (by normalfag standards) highly complex process, but doesn't generally have vast retirement accounts and willingness to send four figure amounts via PayPal to "Down With the Government LLC". It's a tricky situation to be in, and most of the places I've seen tend to monetize with either a quick route around the captchas and spam filters necessary to keep a free speech site alive, or selling meme ads so that sub-communities can fuck with themselves or one another. I honestly wouldn't mind if the top K donors for each month got put into a 'who to follow' list, and people would probably pay for that on an understanding that it's entirely for laughs and there's no sense of obligation.
