I use Ubuntu MATE since MATE is a thing. If my memory serves right I starting upgrading Ubuntu since 18.04, and I did not have a fresh install since then. When I bought this machine I bought two, and since then the PW supply failed and replaced a dying CPY fan using the other. BUT - I use Virtualbox guest for basically everything (32 GB RAM) the box only used for hosting the VMs.
I use Debian with MATE in the VM, also no issues for about 5-6 years.
