For years I've been trying to understand why @pmarca allows so much ridiculous crypto pump-and-dump grifting by his firm @a16z. It's not because he believes in it. He understood Bitcoin enough to write eloquently and accurately about it back in 2014. He is unable to offer a single reasonable defense for cryptoblockchaindefi in any of his appearances.
I think I finally understand the reason. Its not about crypto at all. It's about a thousand stranded private unicorns that will never successfully IPO onto NASDAQ and will never get acquired. The primary goal has always been to pay enough for regulatory capture in DC such that @Coinbase is enshrined as a major trading venue. Then, under the guise of "Real World Assets" and "Tokenization" disguised as innovation (there's nothing new here at all), they'll finally be able to get their exits as their stranded startups list on Coinbase.
I've had some measure of peace since realizing this likelihood about a week ago, because I quite liked A16z as a firm in their first decade, and the scam shilling is so incongruous. If Marc has used non-Bitcoin crypto in an "end justifies the means" manner to pave the way for exits of real businesses, at least it all makes sense.
