This is what we're planning for connecting the PCBs in the prototype for our synthesiser. A ribbon cable with IDC connectors on it that daisy-chains them onto a combined power/data bus. It's just control signals, meaning we won't need much bandwidth, so the data bus will just be a simple I2C (two-wire) affair. As for power, each wire of a ribbon cable can handle 700 mA. If you need more than that, you just spread it out over more wires.
