For firearms, the USCCA has really good training courses. Join for a month and watch the videos. They are a little right leaning but they keep the politics to a minimum. Videos are no substitute for training, though.
Learn the self defense laws where you live and where you travel. Even if you were on the "right" side of a fight you could end up dealing with the injustice system.
