I was in a citizen committee meeting yesterday. We were discussing #DEI and improving outreach to marginalized communities, immigrants, ESL, etc.. The chair (ypungish White woman), wanted to be helpful but struggled to find the words for what she called "not traditional" communities, and then "those others". It was cringe. Even when she was proposing a (one) position dedicated to reaching out to "those others", like one minority will stand in for them all.... Sigh.
