It's also easier to hide a major shift toward inflation (the 70s) when you can convince women they should be working instead of raising kids. When you measure everything by "household income" and many households double their income then cutting the value of the dollar in half doesn't look as bad.
Strong communities & families are also a major threat to govt power & influence. If you get everyone working then families are generally weaker & smaller, & there is less time to build strong community ties.
