"Kids" today can't possibly imagine what it was like. Tabloid sized pulp paper mostly issues that consisted largely of ads. Hundreds of pages of ads. Many of which we actually read.
We paid money for CS, though the ads covered much of the cost. Wikipedia claims the print version lasted until 2009.
