Back in the Mists Of Prehistory, Chet Faliszek and Eric Wolpaw (who both later worked for Valve including the writing on Portal) introduced the world to The First And Only Truly Objective Metric of video game quality, what they called "Start To Crate" (StC) or "Time to first crate".
As metrics go - "elapsed time between pressing start and the first visible evidence that the level designers have run out of ideas" - I'm unreasonably fond of it.
