I’ve been thinking about this recently. There’s a lot of cognitive dissonance going on. On the one hand, most (or at least many) people hold progressive values and beliefs. On the other, people have this idea that they can’t possibly vote for progressive politics. And I think a lot of this comes down to internalised classism. Because surely the old Etonians (etc.) know best.
