I think the very word "egalitarian" would have a knee-jerk reaction of "communism!" to a lot of folks out there. On the world stage, I see the U.S. like that toddler other kids can't stand in daycare because they hoard all the toys and bitch if anyone wants to share them or will break others' toys so they can't use them. Only in disaster do many folks seem to have that generous spirit anymore, and even then, it's short lived (especially when another disaster is around the corner, or because we're all going too broke to help ourselves, let alone others these days).
Folks here might like that egalitarian thing until they realize "those people" will get some benefit, too. We've become selfish and short-sighted, and a big chunk of them voting for the Cheeto of Chaos again shows it.
