A computer* takes 175 kilowatts of electricity to run, if venture capitalists have their way, everyone could have a computer in their pocket and even computers in the phone chargers consuming about 1.05 × 10^15 watts. 1^12 is a Terawatt so we're at multiple planets worth of electricity. If we don't stop all computing today the waste heat will melt the crust of the earth and all the buildings will sink under the lava.
