Dr. Dan Killam on Nostr: Researchers compared giant clam responses to stressors of different severity, from ...
Researchers compared giant clam responses to stressors of different severity, from shadowing (they have eyes, even discerning the sizes and shapes of objects) to shell tapping to poking of soft tissue, and found they show different lengths of retractions to those different stressors. They habituated to repeated attacks, not closing after poking, but habituation did not transfer between stressors! They knew the difference between being poked and being lurked over by a potential fish! #clamFacts
