There should be a button beside the X that lets you save the post as a draft or when you click X is should ask you if you want to save it as a draft.

I use the draft feature all the time. I get an idea and quickly make a half post then click X so it saves it to my drafts. It's very useful but sometimes I don't want it to save as a draft but it saves anyway so I have to go I to my drafts and manually delete it.

So I chose "Keep it" until a better solution is made
