From a personal POV (my wife slipped gently away in a hospice), but from a professional viewpoint too where I have seen people with unmanageable pain and symptomatic distress, I have never been in any doubt that unless and until we can manage complete symptomatic relief at the end of life, we need the option of a choice for those for whom life has become harrowing and intolerable. Far too many people have said to me "You wouldn't let an animal suffer like this".
