RNG for an ability to work sounds punishing and annoying. If I have unlimited time and just need to spam the ability and wait, fuck that. Maybe if you made it always heal but the amount is random and improves as you get better.

If it’s only after bosses that can work but depends on context. Means you prepare less for a boss if you can’t heal. You just have to avoid having fun (getting hurt) before getting to the boss.

Don’t reinvent the wheel. There are a gazillion games that have done this well and poorly. Master those rules then bend them?
