Exactly. You don't want your dog to "sit! sit!"
This is why I always trained with hand signals that followed the dog's natural inclination (e.g., moving a treat toward the nose, which would cause the dog to sit in order to stay in line with the treat -- difficult to explain in writing) while saying "sit" only once, and not rewarding until hindquarters were in full contact with the ground.
Using the hand signals was useful when the dogs inevitably became elderly and were hearing-impaired, too.
