I'm specifically talking about saluting during the anthem. There are official guidelines that specify who is and is not supposed to salute, and the president is definitively not suppose to a salute. He's supposed to be doing what his daughter is doing. Right hand over his heart, standing upright in silence for the duration of the anthem. Saluting Marines when entering AF1 is a totally different situation. In that instance, the president, as the commander in chief, is returning the salute of the Marines.
