Mindfulness meditation - I just tried a new (to me) technique that came to mind whilst box breathing today.
Regular box breathing is
1. Breathing in for the count of 4
2. Hold for the count of 4
3. Breathing out for the count of 4
4. Hold for the count of 4
(I listen to an analogue tick tock clock for rhythm)
It occurred to me whilst doing this what if we extend the number count. I then continued with 8 then 12 for two rounds each. I did feel the urge to gulp air on 12 count come up so I didn't want to extend further this time.
If we did box breathing to the count of 15 (seconds) sections then we would have a 1-breath-per-minute technique. I wouldn't recommend going straight into this so I will look at developing a protocol and seeing how it feels.
