he's back from the vet now, mouth all bloody... they took three of his canines and 4 of his molars, i think... so he has enough bities left to pull apart chunks of meat, at least, i think they left his incisors alone, pretty sure they took like 4 of his molars
of course he's all wobbly from the anaesthesia and he's gonna be in a bit of pain for a while but i have antiinflammatories for another 2 weeks at strong dose and another course of antibiotics and some kind of goo for his gums to help them heal
i think he's gonna be ok... he asked about whether i wanted to get the hyperplasic gum tissue biopsied for cancer but i looked up the situation with cats with mouth cancer and only about 0.5% incidence of this in the population and usually once it's at the level he might have had by now he only has 6 weeks to live, so i don't want to make him suffer through more of this "medicine" when the research shows that aggressive interventions have no benefit over just giving them stuff for their pain and stuff anyway
but i'm highly skeptical that a cat that spent 5-6 months living outside here in a very clean and quiet section at the edge of madeira with very little in the way of carcinogens in his environment is suffering that
much more likely he's just got infected gums because he was eating shitty cat food that is full of mites and food for bacteria
so, couple weeks of more medicines, and he should be fine after that i think, in fact i reckon within 4 days he's gonna be running around mad playing
they didn't ask me about that either, he was routinely spending about an hour a day running around like a loon, fighting the rugs and running up and down the stairs and scooting back and forth, so i think he'll be great after this
maybe a little more difficult for him to eat but he's got enough teeth left that he can still tear up veal, i'm sure, and i will keep feeding him this kind of stuff so his gums get a good massage

the surgeon lady said they thought they would have to pull out all of his teeth and i'm like "no, please save his fangs at least" because without those fangs he won't be able to tear up meat and i'll have to always cut it into small pieces he can swallow
i really hope they leave at least two of his fangs, damn, poor little guy,
