I have two female friends desperate to get their males to the altar. One finally set a date after years of “wedding phobia,” while the other is engaged-to-be-engaged while she waits out drama involving a “psychotic” ex. (This could be true, but my experience with a man with an allegedly horrible ex was that it turned out she was right to punch him in the face. I’m not advocating violence, but this was a special case.)

I find this sad. It certainly isn’t what classic novels led us to expect, with men proposing and desperately hoping for a “yes.” I don’t know if that was ever the norm in real life. I do believe that these particular men (the ones my friends are prodding down the aisle) are not worth it.
