Because what they observed was that you could count on the same people to reliably post the same content over and over and break the same rules.
So the moral is if you mute people who engage in religious hell threads, you will rapidly no longer see any religious hell threads again.
And from my experience there's only a few of them unless your follow list is really scuffed
