I've become a bit of a chronological purist. My perception of time dictates my life, with the density of meaning creating waves that become my perception of past and future. It also overlaps with other people's perception of time and the density of their derived meaning, effecting my perceptions by how close or distant I have placed them on my map of relevance. It's a natural order.

I'm currently of the mindset that online social interaction is broken in big part by straying too far from that order, allowing outside sources to decide the density of meaning, motivated by mostly selfish incentives.

People don't want to be fixed, but providing the tools to fix themselves could incentivize them to make more natural choices. Addiction is being stuck in a cycle. Algorithmic choice is going to have to contend with that or recreate that. It's the right direction, but it's still going to be a hard fought battle, if the goal is a better online space.

I'm personally okay with not knowing what Big Personality A thinks of what Big Personality B did, if the meaning I have assigned to them, puts them distant on my map. I'm okay with the infinite scroll stopping when I've glimpsed the less meaningful parts of the past. I'm okay with seeing what the people that I consider important find meaning in, enough to push it forward.

I said I was going to try to be less serious, but here I am philosophizing about how we're all just dropping rocks in the water. The mind purge continues. 😅
