\4 I just realized it was probably always this way prior to social media, we just didn't know. That is, most people analyzed in a shallow way and reacted. The only reason it seems like a change is so many people have a voice. 30 years ago the filter for seeing constant weigh-ins on modern issues was quite different. People would share their top 10 topics of the day in a bar, or on the bus... wherever. True, there is a magnification on social media, but I'm not sure the cognition is different.
