A perhaps useful bit of info... cats main/only taste is umami and apparently fish (tuna, salmon) is the most flavorful to them. Our cat only really loves Whiskers salmon paté when it comes to wet food (gross but she knows what she likes, she'll also accept chicken but that's it....she was only on kibble when I moved in but her owner is pretty negligent, he'd never taken her to the vet, for example, and I end up changing her litter for everyone's sake).

She's not that interested in upmarket wet food but at least she's getting wet food. She's not my cat, though she tends to sleep with and listen to me now more than with her owner, so that's also a factor (and expense I can't afford to assume on top of buying her wet food).
You can make food for cats but you have to make sure to add extra taurine.

Also, while most vets are lovely people who care about animals, Scientology's covert business arm targets them and lots of new agey pseudo-holistic marketing goes on around vet clinics (who sell products so have a conflict of interest when it comes to recommending them).

My cousin in Australia also started a fresh dog food business! It's very trendy right now, as is marketing grain free food for cats and dogs because that's a currently trendy dietary concern for humans. We tend to think cats should eat human food but their natural diet is small rodents (not something most humans find appetizing so there's no cat food made from mice because it would freak humans out! lol And maybe be impractical to make).
