Yes and no. We actually pioneered much of what came before Nostr in Solid years ago—client-side apps, pub/sub over websockets, etc. Nostr also drew influence from SSB. What Nostr added, notably, were Taproot and Schnorr signatures (which Solid now supports too). Truthfully, Nostr wouldn’t exist without the groundwork laid by others. It’s always been a team effort—it nearly died in its first year and only got here because of many contributors.
That said, the NIPs area now feels insular, with a lot of bad design decisions dominating. There are competing ideas, but most of what’s popular now does feel pretty cringe. The bigger issue is that it’s far too centralized and not driven by the wider community.
Also, nothing in Solid or Nostr mandates fat clients—that’s just one approach, with its own trade-offs.
