On the right (esp. in our current moment) but also on the left, there are a lot of cynical ignorant claims that science is meaningless or only enriches the rich (helps Big Pharma) etc.

While wealth maldistribution has increased in the last 50 years, and while scientific progress is no panacea for political struggle, let's keep in mind what science has done and continues to do:
