i've lost faith in purist approaches over the last years. hard-liners and must-be-sos can be content (and have the right) to isolate themselves into a small and exclusive corner, even if this creates little impact elsewhere. the progress i want is messy, and ultimately requires finding useful collaboration in spaces i don't like or agree with, while avoiding or minimizing harm in the process.
