In general, so-called property claims give “owners” anti-democratic veto power over public, shared resources, like roads, air, water, security, and more. These sorts of claims can (and do) serve important instrumental purposes in the public interest, but they cannot be assumed as natural entitlements. We should reconsider how a handful of individuals with property can overturn the Democratic will of an entire city.
