I'm pretty sure the balance of poppies I saw in the town centre today were enamel pins rather than the paper ones. I suppose as the performativeness goes up and people get more sturdy reusable ones, the charity fund-raising aspect is probably getting kneecapped.

Not that I mind: it's a disgrace that we didn't look after the survivors of the great wars but equally they're mostly gone and I'm not throwing money into the collection tin for Northern Ireland "veterans"
