I think it's because users know there won't be any update anymore. Not like before the announcement, there's always that “hope”. Or an assumption that there are no bugs, or the dev is only busy.
Another is… like in my case… I was too lazy to find another IRC client because Hexchat is working any way. The announcement gave me the final push. LOL.
