When we moved last year, I stuck some of the smaller plants for transport into a large planter only half full of compost. I also stuck in some rose cuttings, one of which survived. It's stayed green all winter, despite below 0 temps & now has new growth on it. My guess is the tall walls of the planter & also being situated near the back wall have combined to keep this youngun going.
